On April 4, 2014, USFWS suspended imports of safari hunted elephant trophies due to insufficient information on the status of elephant in Zimbabwe and an outdated elephant management plan. It has taken nearly 4 years of deliberations by the USFWS officials (the very same ones who were serving under the Obama administration) to conclude that indeed the safari hunting of elephant does enhance the species survival. So this decision was not made overnight nor imposed upon them.
